When I see traps like that I tend to blame the roofer ..... last year I caught one in the act of removing the trap from a rtu drain as he was also on site because of a water leak. Said "I'm just helping you out because someone installed the drain wrong"

I used to PM McDonald's cooking & refrigeration equipment. As a favor to them, I'd also remove & flush their RTU traps because they'd often grow a blockage.
I never understood why their maintenance guys saw some reason to go and plumb all their three or four RTU condensate drains together, then run it all through a common PVC pipe to the edge of their flat roof.
Are they afraid to get their roof wet?

I often see that too where they go through a lot of trouble and pvc material of piping an elaborate draining system on the roof to expel the water into a rain drain or close to it. I often scratch my head of what's the point?

Maybe I misunderstood what you were intending but the point is that you are not supposed to drain RTUs onto the roof.

Well if so that seems to be a vastly loose and rather pointless code if there is such one. Which if there is it is obviously often overlooked or not cared about.

nothing more annoying than glued traps and lengths of pvc ran across roof tops. I'm lying, it's even more annoying when the idiot glues the trap to the length with no way to clean it out

In my area they will nail us if we don't drain off the roof.it also has to drain into dirt and cannot cross concrete. several times we had to drill thru concrete to pass.

That would be about $10k worth of piping on a big roof. We only see them not draining on a roof when the roof is crappy.

bears are not allowed to in the woods, they must use approved public bathrooms outside the park. lol

You must be getting old. I do the electric slide through condensate slime. It helps me go unit to unit faster to tape up capacitors, jam cig butts in contactors, and check suction lines for beer can cold while simultaneously unhooking economizers.

I've been on a lot of roofs in the last 20+ years. Running every RTU drain to roofs edge or roof drain is impractical, unrealistic, and absurd. Nothing wrong with doing it at all.
