You have to fight through some bad days to earn the best days of your life.
You can learn something from EVERYONE.
All I need is a meter and a paperclip.
gas.
Cup of coffee on the way into work and a cup of coffee and maybe a cold pepsi on the ride home. Sometimes when its an hour or so on the way home I get a bag of doritos and use 2 fast food straws as chopsticks to eat the chips without turning my hands orange...... or I get corndogs at a Pilot truck stop....sometimes though I get a cold sandwich at pilot..... and sometimes Ill get a fountain drink.....
But I got to have a cup of coffee in the morning and the evening....... all day long if possible.....
Nothing like escaping from the job and having coffee in the truck waiting......even if its cold.

Leatherman, 6in1, ak900, and a meter. I can diagnose just about everything and fix most of it.
On my person, everywhere I go, on and off the clock
Leatherman (Rebar)
Flashlight (stylus pro)
Pen (Cross and only Cross)
Wallet
iPhone
Zippo
I can fix a lot of stuff with just that.
In the van, aside from the obvious tools
Rags (lots of them)
Shoe covers (lots of them)
First Aid kit (because black tape and a McDonalds napkin doesn't alway impress)
A notepad (not just scraps of paper)
Scraps of paper (for the unimportant stuff)
A fresh shirt (A crawl space and a white shirt don't mix)
Inverter (even if its a small one, tool batteries always die when your miles from power)
Dry socks (warm ones for cold weather)
Back up batteries (AA, AAA, and 9v bare minimum)
A back up meter (2 is 1, 1 is none)
A back up manifold (Same deal)
Multiple light sources (nothing is worse than not being able to see)
Medications (Advil and Tums in my case, pick your poison)
A phone charger (I shouldn't even have to recommend it)
PB blaster (or equivalent, too many uses to list, including emergency wasp killer)

I created this post because its cool to read though all of the post and see what everyone likes to have in their truck, its also cool because you can tell what kind of HVAC/R everyone is involved in, I think that our trade is the most diverse one of them all, we are always thinking of things that we could bring that are lighter in weight, have multi functions, and can serve more then one purpose. If you ask a carpenter, painter, electrician or who ever to solve some of the problems we have to solve they wouldn't know where to start. We are constantly being asked to fix the problem without spending any money, or we are in the middle of nowhere and there is a problem that needs to be fixed yesterday but the supply house is a couple hours away. You never know what you going to walk into. If you compare our trades truck to any other trade you can definitely tell what truck or van belongs to us, its the one with everything in it!

I might need to look in to those lol thankfully I haven't had to resort to that yet..... but if you do any service work around the beach with tunnels everywhere it can get bad! One of our other techs got stuck in a tunnel for three hours one night trying to get home due to a bad accident with a semi. Talk about nightmare! Better hope you aren't claustrophobic and if you need a restroom the closest one is miles away
