Help my start my firstplace please!

I recently moved into a home that was build in 2005, so this is somewhat newer equipment.

There is a wall switch and obviously it does nothing when I switch it.

I removed the bottom tile and exposed the mechanics and there seems to be only two things to adjust, and on/off switch and the a red knob that is hooked up to the let the gas in or out. There is electricity going to the unit but other than that I can't figure out how to get the pilot light to light and get the fireplace going. Thanks for helping out a newbie to this forum, much appreciated.

Sorry didn't mean to come off as yelling, far from it. I was happy that I received a reply. I appreciate your help, and if you can point me in the right direction I would highly appreciate it. It's very frustrating not being able to figure it out, and with small kids around I was being cautious turning off the gas as I would more than likely forget it open, and if you look at my picture I just realized that I left the on/off switch left on ON, go figure.

The pilot lights itself on a call for heat. If I'm what I'm thinking is right just call someone, judging by the valve for sure a hiel tempstar dealer will have the part I'm guessing is bad, if its not they can atleast fix it.

There are safety's involved that won't let gas out if pilot is not lit.

Automatic through the valve. There is a safety that is not allowing it to light.

That being said, I turn on the the main gas and flip the on/of switch on the inside, then flip the switch on the wall and it should turn on?

If that is how it is setup then it should work. Some are on a thermostat.

I cannot seem to locate a thermostat, basically what I have is what is pictured plus the switch on the wall.

Not to repeat my self but in my case what would the process be to get this started? For all I know I have been doing it wrong.

Turn on gas, turn on valve, flip switch. If it does nothing then you have a problem.

The valve looks like a Honeywell smart valve which requires a signal from a controller such as a T-stat or ignition control assembly to light the pilot. It appears to have a hot surface ignition system. Where do the black, blue and red wires go to?

Gas valve is shut off.

I have done it in that process and nothing has happened, is there anything that I can do or check that can be in the scope of a diyer? I like to support my skilled traders but if its something that is manageable this is knowledge I would like to build up.

Will do when I get home, don't know why I didn't take one last night. There are no buttons on it basically wires going in, wires going out.

I just worked on a fire place very similar to this one and the little box you are referring to has a switch with off, remote and manual positions.
