    Replacing Oil in Scroll

    Changing out one compressor in a 60 ton Trane Cold Generator, CGAFC604AAEA10000DE. The manual states to change the oil in the remaining compressor that is piped in parallel to the one I am replacing. What is the easiest way to empty the crankcase without cutting the other compressors piping apart too?

    On most compressors the oil charge connection and the dip tube inside do not reach fully to the bottom of the compressor. A lot of the s... remains there when you just push the oil out, using this connection. I use a vacuum flask with a small plastic hose and enter the compressor oil sump through the sight glass / oil equalisation line.

    The guys working on absorbers do know them quite well (i don´t know how they call it). Its just a glass bottle (cylindrical or tapered) with a tapered (sealing) rubber plug on top. But it could be any other container who can withstand negative pressure (e.g. gas cylinder). With glass its just easier to monitor the liquid level inside.
