SMAN 4 GOING THE WAY OF SMAN 3?

The boss bought an Sman 4 for himself and one for me early this year. Summer came way late and ours SMANs did not see much usage until the past two or three weeks.

Bosses SMAN started leaking by from the hi side so FP sent him a new one 2nd day air. Now this one was is leaking by too. To say the boss was pissed is an understatement. He called FP and pretty much was not taken very seriously by the tech. No solution was was offered by the the tech.

Boss called the next day loaded for bear. Got another tech who explained that the new SAMN 4s have a different valve gasket that needs to be torqued down tighter than one would usually consider to make a leak tight seal.

Uncle is admittedly a tough customer but the treatment he received
from FPs first tech was un-deserved. Our company has been a strong supporter of FP even when the our instruments did no perform as advertised.

We will continue to support FP but I feel this incident needed airing.

Also we are on FP email list. A service bulletin should have been issued on the new gaskets in the SMAN 4. Boss was also informed they received a small number of SMAN 4s back for this reason.

Just thought this was important enough to inform others who might have had the same problem.

Too bad you can't mount them on your choice of manifold.

Sorry to hear you/your boss had a bad experience the first time around. I hope Uncle felt better and is back at it with his SMAN after the second time around.

We appreciate the feedback...we know we aren't perfect and can only get better if someone calls us out when we stray off course!

    Cheers

I don't get what u mean. You do know that Uncle and I both own Ak 900s as well as Testo digitals, don't you? So inferring that Uncle should buy a DC is pointless since already owns two.

I wasn't inferring that you should buy a DC. I knew you had one.

If you mean it would have been nice to have the option of mounting the SMAN to a diff manifold, it probably crossed Uncles mine.

If i confused your meaning I apologize.

    Yep
    Same here!
They sent me new valves. When I pulled the old ones, I didn't see anything wrong with them. I reassembled with nylog.
I found the problem is that you have to crank the crap out of them to stop the leak-by.

call it in to fieldpiece, usually its an over the counter swap, if not they will instruct you to send them and and you will get new, free of charge (at least my experience)

Always give Fieldpiece a call and we can diagnose what the issue is and get you fixed the fastest way possible.

    I'm on my second set
This one leaks by too. Really irritating to know you can't trust them.
However (if they didn't leak) they would definitely be my go to guages!
