    i dont like landlords

i am putting the landlord in the wall o shame. i found four cracks like this one between two luxaire's in a rental house. landlord said i was trying to "f*** him over" & "its not that bad, give me a break". he also said i should put some furnace cement on it and it will be ok until next season. i should have known not to go there when he called and said he needs a rental inspection but " theres nothing wrong with them, i know because i used to sell furnaces". oh yeah he was almost 90 yrs old and the furnaces where installed in 1978.

I'd have called the local fire department on that guy. Cracks in heat exchangers don't float around here with slum lords.

Tenants are dime a dozen, so why spend on safety, just slap some furnace cement in the hole.

I don't carry furnace cement. I suppose I could mix up some epoxy and asbestos. That should work.

im surprised at the company he went with, they are a big company that charges big $$. at least the tenants are safe.

lol. I've actually used "furnace cement". It's technically called refractory (sp?) cement.

Last time I used it was on a semi-knockdown steam boiler install, attaching the flue collector box to the sections.

The time before that was 3 years prior to that, replacing massive sections in a steam boiler. Everything has to be cemented together.

Funny thing about it is, anyone who mentions it either:
    A. has a boiler.
    B. Had/has a gravity furnace, where you cemented your bricks together. So a "hole" in a HX, was literally covered with cement.

Funny thing, I used to work with a guy who installed gravity furnaces, and used to joke about plugging holes in gravity furnaces with the crap.

You guys are waaay off base. JB Weld is the only way to fly.
The picture in my avatar is of the Houston Ship Channel and was taken from my backyard. I like to sit outside and slap mosquitos while watching countless supertankers, barges and cargo ships of every shape and size carry all sorts of deadly toxins to and fro. It's really beautiful at times.....just don't eat the three eyed fish....

One way to outthink people is to make them think you think. They'll think you're not really thinking what you're trying to get them to think you think...........
