    I recently took 182 lbs of extra refrigerant out of a chiller that was possibly charged to superheat. That was tripping on high head too?????

    On a txv system superheat not subcool subcool for piston. should have 12degree superheat 10 to 11 sucbool . he system was converted to txv on a trane and said it was a single coil with means like 10 to 15 ton

    We are not talking about a chiller.There is more variables that go into charging a chiller.

    I was hoping he was just having a few typo's and would catch it...

    Superheat for fixed orifice.

    Subcooling (and sometimes superheat) on TXV.

    I currently have a store 4 units trane running 250 to 275 on 85 to 100 degree days and store maintains 73 to 74 throught store on 85 to 100 degree days units are 10 to 15 years old no problems with these or any other.pistion type units have specific weight not txv are charge to full sight glass.     Many things work... That does not make it right.. There are too many unknown variables in your situation to explain why it is working.. But according to the manufacturers, superheat for fixed and subcool for TXV.

    A txv works on a specific superheat thats what little bulb.That y the have a adjustment on them subcool is for pistion type that requires a certain amount of pressure going into a orfice or cap tube
