So I try to find ones with a hand painted sign and give it a shot [img]
Bennington is the same way. Chili's just opened this week as a matter of fact. 1st of its kind.

I always look for the local places too. Jack and I didn't have much trouble finding 'our' kind of resturarants in Belize.

Bill Taste of Texas is not a chain and Edd has gone way overboard on price. Last time I was in they had raised the price of the Cowboy cut Porterhouse to more than $55.00, hell the hamburger is $15.00. I will say they do have they best steak I have ever had.

For chains Nit Noi for Thai food I think they go beyond Houston.

Fogo Di Chao for a place to just stuff yourself.

Mexican Food Guadalajara just in Houston though soon in San Antone

Seafood Papadeuxs also just in Texas

Olive Garden is OK for Italian but I prefer Macaronis bar and Grill.

TGI Fridays, Bennigans, Chili’s and such only in a pinch.

For Mexican in the DFW area, Joe T. Garcia's used to be the place.

Started out down at the Stockyards in a leaning building. Had just 2 items on the menu...Mexican Dinner with Nachos and Mexican Dinner without Nachos. If ya didn't get the nachos, you missed out. Best I ever had. Rest of teh food was great, too. That was back in the '70's.

No reserve. No retreat. No regrets.

As someone who did restaurants b4 HVAC (dishwashing @ PoFolks to Asst. Manager at a finedining steakhouse....
I hate chains. The Managers are not worth anything. The wait staff will completely turnover in 6 months. The food constantly is changing.

Give me a locally owned bar n grill that has had the same staff for 1+ years. Example Norcross Station Cafe Norcross GA. Get to know them and tip well.

    Snake

PS Mattm is definitely from Cincinnati. La Rosas and Montgomery Inn prove my point (My Cincinnati wife has a stock pile of Montgomery Inn BBQ sauce in our basement.)

Joe T's is still rock solid good Mexican chow. The margaritas are potent, also (have a designated driver on hand). The place has grown like a weed from that little leaning building (which is still there). Now it has a beer garden with a pool, and several areas to host private parties. The museum where I work has our holiday party there every year. Good place, good times.

Forgot to mention it earlier: in Dallas the best two non-chain home cooking places to hit are Celebration on Lover's Lane and String Bean at Spring Valley and Coit.

404 - glad you like Texas Land and Cattle. I find their "trail quail" to be just as delicious as their steaks.
Psychrometrics: the very foundation of HVAC. A comfort troubleshooter's best friend.

The first of the big chain sit down dinner resturants just opened here in Bennington. The War Dept. and I just came back from there.

I was pleasantly surprised. The service was great, my meal was great. The price was competative. Welcome to Bennington, Chili's.

My wife didn't care for her Manhattan. But they are hard to make. They did have my Sam Adams on draught, so no complaints from me

I will always choose a restaurant with a patio if the weather is good. I don't smoke, but I love to eat outside.

That habit started after an especially nice job done for Hamilton works in May 1986. The rookie sales engineer and I met at a Pat & Mario's in Burlington overlooking Lake Ontario and the day was so perfect we ate and partied the rest of the afternoon on the balcony... Needless to say, patio's, varandas and balconies became my favourite place to eat... Even at

Is this a Fabreze moment? C.Y.D. I'm voting white elephant. 2¢.
