Hmm Automated Logic Bacnet MS/TP vs Arcnet

I need to tie in a JACE to existing ALC "SE" and "ZN" controllers via BACnet MS/TP but it appears the field bus is Arcnet. The literature for the controllers read Arcnet or BACnet MS/TP compatibility. Is there something that needs to be done to configure the ALC controllers for BACnet MS/TP?

    Any help would be appreciated!!!

    Thanks.

According to page 6 of this manual, the ZN controllers have a jumper that you move between ARCnet or MS/TP positions.

Once you have it set up as MS/TP, you then have to set dip switches 1 & 2 to specify the baud rate.

I assume you'll want to cycle power after changing either the jumper or the dip switches.

Why go to the trouble of having to go to every controller, why not integrate to the LGR via IP or Ethernet?

If you change the jumpers on all the modules you will then have to move communication wires from the arcnet port to the MS/TP Port (S1). Also you will have to set jumper on LGR to turn on MS/TP on port S1 and change Arcnet network to MS/TP in sitebuilder.

    Arcnet

Every time I have seen a ALC Arcnet it was 2 wire, I don't know how much of a problem this would be in ALC but it would be a big problem with any other MSTP installation.

I agree with the LGR integration.

Why? Are you doing 4 wire MSTP or are you saying the Arcnet is missing the shield?

Arcnet and ma/tp both have shields if ALC wiring specs are followed. There is a different wire spec for each.

My vote is integrate with the LGR unless you or you have someone else at the ready to adjust settings on the configuration of the LGR as The_USC mentioned.

Be careful not to make changes you are not knowledgeable enough or prepared to do on the fly. I don't have the exact specifics to tell you verbatim what to do even though I have worked with ALC for about a year, but I know it's a little more involved than just changing the jumpers and moving the wires.

    Be cautious...
