I just started a new job with a company that put me face first into refrigeration work. I have been in the hvac field for 19 years doing 95% commercial work. I have been growing into the controls field for the last 6 years and lately I have been working on correcting poor design issues in 1-2 story office buildings. Now with the jump into refrigeration, a new chapter begins. I guess my question would be, are there any good websites or books specific to refrigeration and ice machine repair? I have been on this sight for awhile and I get great information here. I am looking for something I can read and reference when needed. My new company has a great support system but sometimes I feel like an apprentice not a tech when asking for help. They understand that my background is in hvac and controls and they want to help me grow. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

There are books for refrig, ice makers each have their own manual, this place right here is a good reference library/help desk.

The refrigeration and air conditioning technology text book is a great source of info. It covers everything from large commercial to ice machines and even some rack applications.

Thanks for the info... do you know the isbn number? Does anyone have info on the Hussman rack system? That is a system that I will be working with. I have the info from the manufacture but any real world experience is usually better insight.

If your outfit isnt giving you more support BEFORE the summer season hits ... what makes you believe they will be there for you at all once everything is bonkers?

If you were new to our industry, I'd say to just read all you can learn about this stuff.

But heck, your ALREADY a journey level mechanic. Just in another facet of the trade is all. And your expecting to switch horses in mid trail.

    you need immediate support!!!

in a nutshell, the main diffs between what you already been doin and what your now expected to perform ... is the controls and sequence of operation on the systems.
from there it's a piece of cake

Just like the copeland and tecumseh handbooks, ice machine manufacturers have for their equipment. You need them to know the machine .Go see the distributers. They give them away at school. We've been to Ice 0 matic and Manitowoc last month, Scotsman and Hoshi in a couple weeks

    Here's a new book

Here's a new book on Commerical refrigeration systems I ran across while surfing the net. Can't give you a review since I don't own it. But it looks interesting.

That is a good book. Dick teaches a 20 week refrigeration class in VA that I took 18 months ago and I learned a lot in it. The problem is that at the time, I was not doing much refrigeration work, mostly controls and roof top stuff. I don't want to seem like I get no support, its the opposite. The support is there, I am looking for information I can get on my own so that I am not bothering others while they are working. A good reference maunal is a great thing to have. Sometimes taking a break from a problem and going to the truck to "check thimgs out" is a mind clearer and when you return, you can get a fresh look. The job is great, and when you like what you are doing, life is great too. I am just looking for that magical book.....Ha Ha
