I have a 12 year old Janitrol heat and air unit (heat pump). My mercury thermostat is not working properly so I decided to replace it with a digital one on. I went to Home depot bought one and the wires dont match up correct. My old thermostat has an E wire which is emergency heat. My new one does not have an E connection. I called the manufacturer of the new thermostat and they said their unit does not need the E wire and for me to just tape it off. Does this make sense ?
