    Hi,
I am replacing flooded units in a raised 80 year old house in New Orleans, LA. Ductwork runs under the house.
I am trying to decide between two proposals for the Package Unit. Both compainies are reputable and have been around many years. Both have good BBB records. Both need 4-6 week lead time to order equipment. (Remember, this is New Orleans where you now have to go on a min one month waiting list for any contractor.)

First proposal is for American Standard:
13 seer YCX-G unit mounted on a raised angle iron frame
with metal trunk line and flexible duct to 8 supply vents.
    Second proposal is for Lennox:
13 seer GCXSA-48-083 unit mounted on a timber and plywood frame with metal trunk line and metal duct to 8 supply vents.
The American Standard Proposal is quite a bit more expensive. Does anyone know why the big price difference? Are we comparing apples and oranges? Is the American Standard unit a much higher quality one?

    Thanks for any help,
    Tom

You are with the plywood vs angle iron. I wonder what else on the install?
If everything was always done "by the book"....the book would never change.

get lennox co to quote with iron frame, trane co to quote metal all the way. then it will be apples to apples.
