    Propane to Geothermal Conversion

Want to know how to save over $3,000 a year on utility costs? GO GEOTHERMAL!!!

This house had a 120,000 BTU Trane XV90 gas furnace that was 11 years old and in not so great shape, it also had a Trane 5 Ton XE1000 air conditioner with a flat charge and an 11 year old inefficient 50 gallon propane water heater.

We installed a WaterFurnace envision two stage ground source heat pump with intellistart and desuperheater function attached a Rheem Marathon preheat storage tank and a Rheem Marathon electric water heater. We added some return air for the system and installed two Honeywell Prestige HD thermostats with a Waterfurnace two zone intellizone system.
Ground loop was a 600' long trench with a 6 pipe racetrack for 3,600 feet of 3/4" HDPE piping and supply and return lines that had about 100' each underground before going to the house.

Customer received their first bill and it looks like electric went up about $150, but propane is obviously no longer used and was hitting $600 in similar months. We expect an average of $300 per month savings. As always let me know what you think.

Nice looking job. I would be interested in finding out what the actual cost of hydro to run the heating/air conditioning/ hot water for a year.
In Ontario Geothermal was the cheapest form of heat when natural gas was not available until they put the "Smart Hydro Meters" in. (They charge us different rates for hydro through out the day.) Its a money grab, and it makes payback for the Geothermal almost non existent.

This is a closed not an open loop system. There is no water cost associated except the initial 80 gallons to fill the loop. Only electric costs to run the pump and water heater ans ground source heat pump unit.

Come on, sky, you're close enough to the border to know them northerners call electricity hydro Why I don't know - cuz they generated it with hydroelectric dams?

I was more so thinking in terms of the movie WaterWorld where they call Water pure hydro lol.

But with 10.8 cents per KWH electric and 2.75 per gallon propane it should save $3k per year and have a 5-7 year payback.

Good looking job! We're doing more and more geothermal installations that are similar to yours. And our customers love the Prestige thermostat, especially with the Gateway for remote use. I also like your youtube videos. It looks like a good sales tool.

We are still waiting for the Honeywell gateway here in Oregon. My personal one should be here in two weeks. Thanks for subscribe I have a few more geothermals in progress and will have more footage in a couple of weeks. Feel free to show off the ground loop installation video. Its a great tutorial and educational video.

Thanks for pointing this out to me....Yea we grew up calling electricity "Hydro Electric" that is how it is marketed. The company I buy it from is named "Hydro One" I will keep this in mind next time I post.

Nice work Sky, I've yet to see one done here in Ca. I bet that bumped up the property tax, I hear they really hit your wallet up in Oregon.

I havn't had anybody mention anything yet. Here in Oregon inspectors and permits people don't have a freaking clue what a geothermal install is(or cost). On one install earlier this year we called for an inspection on a ground loop, inspector looked at the ground for maybe 10 seconds and then signed up, flat out asked, what am I supposed to look at/for?

Nice job! I'm starting to wonder if geothermal is going to fall on its face with the new inverter heat pumps
