mlkwal1, What size line are you working on?

i am working on a 4 and 6 inch pipe., they want to change the butterfly valve
on the discharge side of the pump.,

sanman, if u THINK about it., if u have a closed loop with no play, yes the pipe would bust,
however , if u freeze a small section of a pipe, the water will freeze then expand, but only freeze that section, .,

i was thinking about this product

We have a "cold shot" by general I think. We've used it on a few jobs. It's worked well. We freeze two spots, one on either side of the repair we're doing and then drill a test hole to make sure it's plugged.

It only works on water that isn't moving and our kit only goes up to 3" pipe. The one time we used it on 3", it took 45 minutes to freeze completely and we had a spare bottle of CO2 on hand just in case we ran out.

After we freeze the pipe, and drill the test hole, we work like maniacs to get two valves installed for fear that the ice plug might fail...it hasn't yet.
