    Confused Mismatach? Refrigerant line icing

I just had a home inspection prior to buying a small home. The condensing unit is a 2T Coleman THRD24S41S1A but the air handler is Goodman ARUF182416BA. Both are 2009 models. Its a seaside install, so odd matchups are not uncommon. But the outside refrigerant line was heavily iced up. The air handler ductwork install is shoddy. Inspector thought the units might be mismatched. Based on what i read, the inside unit comes standard without a THX. Should I anticipate having to get a new air handler? Thanks.

Not necessarily, have someone look at it to determine why it is freezing.

Is it a rate match? No. Will it work? Maybe. A good service company may be able to adjust the current system. I would probably recommend a matching air handler and correct duct work.

don't worry about the mismatching, have a company come out and find out why it's freezing up.

I don't agree, manufacturers have different ways to get to 13 SEER. Refrigerant charge is critical to the function of the unit. Coleman specifies .055 fixed orifice and 13 oz additional charge for a matched Coleman air handler. Who knows what the Coleman/Goodman pair with a fixed orifice needs.
