move the unit away from the bedroom is the best answer to resolve your issue
I have a Trane XL14i heat pump that is located close enough to our bedroom windows that the noise bothers me at night. I've noticed that as the outside temperature goes down near freezing the noise of the hp goes up. If the outside temp is in the 50 degree range, I usually only hear the hp fan-air noise.
Is it normal for hp compressor noise to go up as temps go down? If so, why? I know the defrost cycle will be noisy but so is the normal heating cycle if the temps are low.
I'm looking at having a sound blanket installed over the compressor but I think the Trane XL14i already has a sound muffler. Can a blanket be installed over the existing muffler or should it first be removed?
Thanks.

Have the freon lineset checked to make sure it is not strapped too tightly to the floor joist below the bedroom.
