Arent labor unions great

There was a time in the history books when unions were needed and they worked for the good of the people . They fought for the workers against dangerous conditions, low pay long hours

sound familiar? but boy has greed overcome them now

we are in the union but our company has its own contract written so the union does nothing but take our dues and represent us in labor actions , however if we have a dispute it is in the contract that we must resolve it with the company before going to the union for assistance

the company provides the health insu and the 401 so we get no benifits through the union at all....they just take our money

well now the dues are increasing and we still get nothing in return...I havnt even recieved a card from them yet and its been 3 months already

Maybe I'm wrong but it seems to me that unionism and communism are the same. Those at the top get fat at the expense of the workers. The workers are stratified into layers of income based on their loyalty/tenure to the party/union.At one time the unions had their place but soon became giant leeches of the very people that supported them.
I was snubbed by the union a log time ago because of my independent views on wage/benefit negotion. I still see no need for outsiders negotiating for my best interest. Thank you I can, and have done a heck of a lot better on my own.
I don't buy cars on credit, paying a third party interest for financing. I don't pay a stock broker to trade stocks for me. And I sure as hell don't need some worthless union negotiator to pretend to represent me and my best interest!

Look at Detriot to see how "good" the union has been for the American worker. The union doesn't give a fig about it's members, only about padding it's own ass with monthly union dues and initiation fees for new members. Security from a union? Please, that is a huge joke. The big unions are going down so you "brothers" better get used to fighting for wages and bennies like the rest of us or get used to going hungry.
Sory for the strong feelings but I have watched a lot of people hung out to dry by the unions the past couple of years that thought they were covered for life.

Very good post Wally. You expressed my sentiments exactly. There may have been a time for unions (in this industry) but they aren't necessary now. Here (VA) 80% of non-union guys are making above union scale with better benefits and are typically better skilled as well.

man this post just gets better and better, too bad someones probably going to come in here and spoil it ranting at why we cant survive without the unions...... tell that to the GM and Ford workers lol. Sounds like the unions are spending more time trying to unionize Walmart anyway. why waste time on the older unionized businesses..... their all pretty much going down hill or broke other then the post office or teachers union. Those 2 are both losing money too but being they both just raise taxes to keep from going broke ....... union officals will milk those forever, sad but true.

As long as we as a nation are willing to give up our freedom of being able to own our own business's and conduct business in a free trade manner, then yes, unions are a viable Socialized entity.

With Unionized labor comes Socialized structure. Socialism has failed miserably in every country it has become dominant in. Socialism nearly destroyed Great Britain in the late 20th century and it could bring the great U.S. to its knees if left to grow.

The fortunate thing is that unionized labor has been in a dramatic decline for the past 50 years and is showing no sign of being able to revive itself. Other then governmental areas of the work force, unionized labor is rapidly being eliminated in order for Capitalism to take back control of our major corporations.

I have never been in a Union and don't know much about the way it works but my understanding is the choice to vote is not given to the employer only the employee's. We had a trucking company here with some of the highest paid men in the area and they decided they wanted to join the union. Monday morning they came to work and the doors were locked and the owner gone. He would rather close the doors than go union and that's what he did leaving a lot of high paid employee's standing outside wondering what the hell are we going to do now.

They all found jobs I'm sure but not like they had and as close to home.

The empoyer's vote is whether or not he wants to stay open, if the workers vote a union in.
