You can't do the outdoor reset without it.
I have an NTI Ti150, propane fired. The installation was done without installing the outdoor air probe. Can someone explain just what this does? Should it be installed? I am located in South-western Ontarion, so very similar climate as Buffalo NY. Thanks for any comments...

Set it up that is why you paid the money for that type of system
The sensor comes with the unit and should be installed for optimum efficiency- your actual mileage will vary. Depending on construction obstacles, it may be easy to install. I see no reason it wasn't done initially. This will save you more energy. The outdoor temp is used to set the boiler outgoing water temp lower if it's not overly cold outside. You might want to contact the installer and ask if it was simply overlooked. Since choosing the outdoor reset curve is part of the programming set up, I doubt it was just overlooked. Curious, was the Trinitiy a replacement for something or is this new construction?
Don't confuse me with facts, my mind is already made up.
Incidentally, though this isn't well known, you should put the sensor in the spot that best reflects the heat loading on your building. If you have a house with lots of south facing glass, put it on the south side, as this will help compensate for the actual heat gain.
Put it on the north-east side if your house doesn't get a lot of sun.
Thanks for the replies, I'll be contacting the installer to find out why it wasn't installed, and to get it installed. The boiler installion was a new home, a 1500 sq ft. chalet style A frame. The boiler feeds a radiant header for basement heat, and an air handler for the rest of the house. It's a combi unit, so it's also doing my hot water...
Right now I don't think the probe is an issue, although we are experiencing higher than normal temperatures, we haven't had many days above 0 degrees C.
Spring and fall and summer will save you money
