Trane XV80 cycle rate per hour

Hi everyone. Thank you for this very informative forum. I have a trane xv80 (110 btus) installed this summary for a 2200 sq ft. house (split level). Thermo stat is a white rogers single stage programmable. Two quick questions:

1) the furnace cycles on and off 3times per hour (on for 9mins on and off for 11mins). Is this cycle per hour normal?

2) would there be any benefits cost wise for switching to a 2 stage thermo stat? I usually set the temperature at 68 degrees constant. No set back at night or during day time. If so, what would be a good t-stat to match with the trane.

Honeywell vision pro 8320.

2 cph will keep the burner on alittle longer, and let the temp drop alittle lower before starting it again, it will save you alittle.

3 cph is normal for higher eff furnaces.

thanks beenthere. how do you get to 2cph without having to replace the t-stat? can this adjustment be done at the furnace? How?

Its done at the stat, in the installer set up section, you'll need the installation manual for the stat.

I agree, put a 8320 on that furnace, and you will have a much better comfort in the home, and longer run time on colder days.

I have the XV90 on the two stage stat, and house is comfortable in all rooms.

If you still have the installation book of your tstat, the instructsions will tell you if your current stat is able to be set at 2 CPH.

Its done by the stat, not the furnace.

thanks everyone for your suggestions. i have yet to buy the PV 8320 and have it installed. I'll tell him to set it at 2cph.

In White Rodgers stat you can change "Adjustable Anticipation" - This option allows the cycle times in heating or cooling to be increased or decreased. The adjustment range for heating is from 2 to 40. Factory preset is 5. Look in the installation instructions.
