    upgrade furnace filter?

    Hello,

I've seen some posts regarding thicker furnace filters (above 1"), and can't really seem to find any drawbacks to upgrading from a 1" up to 4"+... are there any negatives?

I've attached a pic of my current filter area, and it's super tight.. there's a little over 4" of space in between the furnace and the vertical part of the return.. do I even have any options in that tight of a space to go for a thicker filter?

I like the Carrier EZ Flex cabinet, but it's a bit over 7" wide unfortunately and and i'm assuming other manufacturers will be similar.

    Thanks

Looks like a simple 4" cabinet will fit. A media air cleaner will work well in most cases.
Not really an easy diy job.
    That stuff is SHARP!
