I have lived in this house for nearly 2 years. Just in the last 4-5 months I have noticed that the duct work that is exposed in the basement, seems to be changing its appearance. It has a white powdery substance starting to appear on it. It isn't on all of them but it seems to be 'spreading.' Just wondering, if this is a normal thing that happens over time, or if it is something to be concerned with??

sounds like high humidity in basement. should have tech come out and check heater venting. have seen corrosion caused by exhaust fumes.

Thank you, is it something that is a long term concern or is it something that should be remedied immediately?
A piece of added information, we have cat litter in the room, a person mentioned to me that the ammonia from the cat urine may be adding to the problem, is this a possible contributor?
