The shaft is 2 15/16" and the blower wheel is a backward incline wheel with airfoil blades and about 82" diameter! I think it's a 50HP motor.
I've got a 10 year old building with 12 fans of a similar size. So far the shafts and bearings are OK but I'm dreading the day when I have to pull a shaft that size.
How do you handle that? Cut the shaft near the hub and then sledge hammer away?

No I am not clean shaven, but as long as you do not have eyes in the back of your head I don't think you would mind

Powerhead,
This bearing, fortunately, was on the pulley side. We're having a bracket extended uot so we can use a good part of the shaft towards the blower wheel. As for the rear, there's also room to extend the mounting surface. Haven't had to replace a 3" shaft yet and I don't look forward to it whenever it comes along.R2B4BTU

How tough was the old bearing on there? I can slightly see the shaft.
I did a 1 3/16 last week and it moved about an 1/8th inch and jammed on me... had a 20 ton puller and it wouldn't budge it...had to burn it off. Did okay though.
Sometimes I can't believe how nasty they can be.
Used to do 4" regularly at the General Tire here in Barrie before they closed up- 2 piece pillow blocks with double rollers. They were easy compared to some...also 20' in the air as well.Is this a Fabreze moment? C.Y.D. I'm voting white elephant. 2¢.
