Hey guys,
First time posting a problem but I've been constantly reading this forum as it is filled with great information.
Ok, I've got this 5 Ton split system that will be with a distance of 300 feet from condensing unit to air handler. Looking for information regarding the losses I came by this information.
http://www.columbiapipe.com/catalog/...2106510003.pdf
where they tell me that up to 250 equivalent feet I'll be losing 2 % of cooling capacity. Ok, but that info just came up from the internet and well I'm still 50 ft short.
Using the pressure/velocity tables for HFC-410A it looks like if I use a 1/2" O.D. I'll be able to keep the velocity in around 280 fpm with a pressure drop of around 6.5 psi/per 100ft. If I keep the 3/8" O.D. velocity rises to 400+ fpm and pressure drop would be 30+ psi/per 100feet.
On the suction line, I would stay with a 1-1/8" O.D. pipe and would only be loosing around 2 psi/per 100 feet.
So my question is this, considering the challenges I have because of distance, is it possible for it to work correctly if the system is correctly charged with the 1/2" pipe?. Also I'm concerned about oil return.
Hope you guys can help a fellow out
