You left off a zillion other manufacturers...Mitsubishi, Sanyo, etc. I doubt Carrier and Trane actually make their units. They are probably rebadged from one of the major overseas manufacturers.
HVAC is like anything else...you can always get a lemon.
I've never worked with the Mitsubishi's but the guys I know that have love them. I've install Sanyo and Daikin and both brands have been reliable. A friend works for a company that does nothing but LG installs and he says they rarely have any issues.
The only one I've had guys complain about is Fujitsu...but then again, it could be installer issues for all I know.
I don't think you'll have issues with any of them.Originally Posted by ladyfire3374:

A properly maintained A/C unit is durable.

Agreed.
For ductless split systems I install LG. They are great units and I have yet to have any large problems with these units. Overall I would recommend nothing else. I have put in Carriers, Samsungs, Mitsubishis, and Fujitsu as well.
My ranking would be:
LG
Carrier
Samsung
Mitsubishi
Fujitshu

They will all be good...99% of the problems will be in the installation...

If I was ranking them it would be:
1. Daikin/Mitsubishi
2. LG/Samsung
See, my list differs from hungrytech and IMO both lists are correct...it's just personal preference on ease of installation, teaching the homeowner/customer how to operate them, etc.Originally Posted by ladyfire3374:
