Repair, replace, or?

I'm in the process of purchasing a SFR to rent out. During the contingency period, prior to (and discpvered upon) inspection, we found someone had ripped out the accessible copper, including the a/c lines. My question is this: what effect will this have on the system? If the copper pipes are replaced, will it be possible to simply recharge the refrigerant and be good to go? I realize that the system may not operate for completely different reasons, seeing as how I've been unable to test it, but before I get bids pn the job I'd like to know what I can expect. Thanks!

A competent company should be able to replace the lines and if the system was operational before the lines were cut, it should once again be operational. A good company would likely make some type of tests on major components of the system for a reasonable cost before doing the line work.

I have found that systems that have had the copper hacked and been left open to atmosphere for extended periods of time often have many problems after they are repaired. Allowing moisture into the system for that extended period of time can have bad results. Make sure your pro replaces all filter dryers and pulls a GOOD vacuum. The longer, the better... If they do that then it should operate ok, but you may have compressor or metering device issues down the road.

post the model and serial # of the equipment age and type of refrigerant could be a quick no cost diagnostic
