NO, you're right. But the simple truth is, nothing does. Anyone can file, about anything. All anyone can do is protect themselves from liability but that doesnt eliminate the cost of defending it. Unfortunately, there is no easy solution and liability is most definitely a must have parameter.

BUT...

the validity of a lawsuit CAN be prevented by not allowing the point of legal jeopardy to take place, i.e., if we do not allow DIY advice to be given, then we cannot be held liable for giving DIY advice that leads to injury or death.


So, no DIY for dangerous things. Advice like "check your air filter," or "is your thermostat set to cool" is permitted.

Not discussion of current draw for motors which is clearly directed by the desire to replace a motor oneself. THAT is DIY.

That is because we are over-populated with lawyers and common sense is an endangered species.


Every time I call my congressman and suggest a hunting season for lawyers to help "thin the herd" I get all sorts of yelling and screaming, then the phone just clicks.

Who do you think is buying off the congressmen? They know which side their bread is buttered on... Also have you ever noticed a high percentage of congressmen were lawyer before getting into politics. They're going to stick up for their own...

I don't know the answer but I would guess they support whichever party sticks closest to the intent of the constitution.

Actually, they support the party that views the constitution as being inconvenient, preventing them from fully implementing their desired agenda.
