What mess? It seemed to work fine.
I've seen some pros post bad info or ask really stupid questions.

I wish I could get a response like this when I ask someone to read a post... ghezzzz

Hijack... the site rules have changed... updated legal posts #14 to include No Exceptions. If you are unfamiliar with it... take a quick gander so you can help report to the mods.. thx

What is required to acces the pro section? Is it only for HVAC contractors? I repair TV's and Appliances by trade, HVAC is a hobby/interest of mine. I've learned a lot in the 10 years I've been on this site.
10-07-2011, 05:00 PM #18From what I've been seeing, it seems the mods & AOP committee members are having a hard time keeping up with all of the violators of the rules. Maybe the software should be changed to allow any pro with a * after their name to edit or remove post from offenders. If a pro with a * after their name abuses this, they would be found out pretty soon and penalized accordingly.
I've been seeing violations of the rules in threads where moderators have been posting, but ignoring postings in violations of the rules. An answer without a question is meaningless.
Information without understanding is useless.

Guilty. It was an accident. I saw the thread when I was in the "New Posts" section, and responded to it a few times before I realised it was from the AOP section. Oops. The same way I just realised what section this thread is in.

For someone new like me, this turned out to be really confusing. I made a post which was a DIY post because the "ask our pro's' infers that the individual asking doesnt know and is looking for information. I would bet that for most people, they are looking for that information because they are looking to make the repair themselves... However, the concern about liability makes absolute sense. A suggestion might be to create a sub-forum where your pro's (*) and DIY'ers can communicate but with the legal caveat (a sticky) that anyone participating in that forum does so at their own risk, that all information is for educational purposes only and that all DIY'ers reading the posts are to contact a professional to undertake any/all suggestions, stated or inferred, and that this forum accepts NO responsibility for any information correct or incorrect due to the clear and present inability to control all public dissemination of information on a public forum. Then you're covered and DIY'ers have a GREAT resource to draw information from. Just a thought...

NO, you're right. But the simple truth is, nothing does. Anyone can file, about anything. All anyone can do is protect themselves from liability but that doesnt eliminate the cost of defending it. Unfortunately, there is no easy solution and liability is most definitely a must have parameter.
