Heat Pump/Heat Strips/HW Baseboard settings help
I had a new heat pump installed over the summer, with heat strips. I have a Honeywell Vision 8000 thermostat installed with an outdoor temperature sensor. I am going to set it up so the heat pump heats the house until the outdoor temperature is cold enough, then switch over to my Hot water baseboard oil burner. I was thinking I should set this temperature at about 32 degrees. I live in PA near Philly. It is a 1300 sq ft 1 story rancher. My goal is to not have to buy so much oil, and be more efficient. I'd like to not use the heat strips unless absolutely necessary as I know that drives the electric bill sky high. Any suggestions?
Thanks.

You may
need an extra relay/controller to do what you want. Possibly another OD T-stat. Contact either your installer or a good control guy. Sounds like what you want to do isn't that difficult.

You may be able to use your heat pump down to 25 with out needing aux/back up heat.
A load calc could determine that.
