hello, im in school rite now and concerned what kind of back round/security checks will an employer do, and who would an employer not consider?

drivers,crimminal, background checks are standard others will depend on their contracts say airport work,research labs,testing facilities,banks and security firms.if your representing a company walking around doin service the customer has to know who you are? badges,sign ins,pass key cards to keep track of your movements..hospitals are big on the key card tracking

so thats basically the norm then, pretty routine.
how about residential? and what is their acceptance criteria.
is it basically a no-go for anyone with-out a clean record.

Around here, most will check back 10 years for DUI's and other driving offenses, as well as criminal background. Drug testing is the norm also. Sometimes, even an aquitted felony conviction can keep someone from getting a job. This is for residential and commercial in our area. Also, immigration status.

It honestly all depends on the employer.Some don't check and others are very thorough. A speeding ticket or minor traffic offense likely wont affect it. But anything criminal especially theft seeing that your in and out of customers homes and business. On top of that the shop is full of tools so I can almost guarantee that a thief wont be hired lol

What do u mean by acceptance?
At the shop your basically a biotch for the first bit lol doin the shop work carrying tools ...LEARNING...most places stick you with one liscenced tech and you basically just follow him around to calls help out do this and that. I know alot of places don t just throw you an apprenticeship especially small shops, big shops might right out of the gate cause they can afford to. Smaller ones want to make sure that you are interested and competant/show some desire to do the job. I just started 3 weeks ago as a labourer and do basically what I described above, probably have a chance for a sheet metal apprenticeship but we will see. All i can say is roll into the shop be friendly to co workers, be confident but not cocky just because you went to a pre apprenticeship school you don t know it all belive me, listen to the journey person your working with and dont hesitate to ask questions, its better to ask then screw up or if you do screw up correct it if you can but if not tell the guy don't try to cover up your mistakes.

same to you man...also if you work for a good company they will make sure your good enough to start doing the work on your own and such because its their name. Ive heard of some companies who just toss ya out in the deep end right out of school and I mean some guys are able to do that but its nice to get a start....crappy wages but thats just what you gotta do in this business.

yah i should be good, with my hvac skills and an electrical background, i'de like to think i'm employable. i did hear that trade skills employers are hungry for qualified employees. i guess allot of guys are not practicing trade skills anymore...

No matter what you are, mechanic or grunt. If you're uninsurable or too expensive for the employer to insure you won't leave the gate. Can you afford your auto insurance? Are you bondable?

With the economy the way it is an employer can cherry pick his employees. There is too much liability exposure to hire anyone with even the faintest hint of trouble.
