trane voyager locking out

hi anyone have an idea why this trane locking out. it trips almost everyday or sometimes once a week. by the time i get the call, all the safety controls already closed. anyone has any idea? please help

.10 amp fuses across the the safteys. Have you taken pressure readings? Coil is clean?

I would start with basics.. Filters/belt/coils. What your pressures look like ? voltage/amps ? Is there corrosion on UCP board ?

@BKS60-only the 2nd circuit trips. after i reset the system, pressures, amps, superheat and subcool is good. i'm in the process of putting a tattle tale on all the safeties. belts and filters are brand new.

@coolerguy, their is no ucp board on this system, only relays, and timer motors for circuit 1 and 2.

Make its a lot less to consider. I would obviously stay on the 2ns circuit only. You may try checking all fans for contactors, shafts and amps. Also I would check the lockout relay. i have found that the relays are failing and also the pins on the subbases are not making good contact. The N/O contacts on the back of the compressor circuit breakers have also been known to fail intermittently.

is there any active alarms before you reset the unit?

I believe that unit will just open the lockout relay. There is not a control display to monitor alarms.

Sounds like you need to start using some taddle tales to isolate your problem.

@BKS60, yes i have bypass the n/o contacts for the breaker of that compressor. and i swap all the relays from the 1st circuit but it still trips. i will try to spin the shaft on each cond fan manually, i only took amps and was under the rated load.

Is there a freeze stat on the unit? I have had a few Tranes act this way.

Go to the terminal board and make sure that every screw is tight. Every one. No wire on it? Tighten it anyway. Some of those are safety connections and jumper strips.

I had a problem unit a couple of years ago, and darned if I didn't find a screw backed out about 3/4 turn.

After that, no problem.

Had a problem like that, and it was locking out on high head found with tattle tale. Condenser motor was amping fine but checked motor at shaft, bearings were causing motor to lock up.Had a lot of play side to side.

If the tattle tails don't work try using manual reset on you high and low pressure safties. Had the same problem one time but with a UPC board, CTI board and ALC controls. Freeze stat was kicking it out, shorted economizer board it would run the power exaust fans with the economizer closed (long history with this unit its full of FM).

I had an odd situation like that but on a Carrier once. Turned out that the compressor contactor coil was pulling high amps because it was heating up. It had half of our shop stumped because all pressures, voltages and amp draws were in spec. We eventually changed the contactor as a " Let's see what this will do" tactic. No problems after that.

i would check the condenser fan motor capacitors, make sure they aren't cutting off due to bad capacitors. if the unit has a UEM board, unitary economizer module, make sure it has no problems in it. (that thing can cause weird things to happen when you are calling for cooling) check superheat, subcool, make sure you are getting enough cool suction gas to keep your compressor from overloading on thermal protection. lp, hp, freezestats. make sure both cfm are running properly, not just the capacitor as mentioned, but also the relay that brings on the second fan motor, and the outdoor temp sensor that sometimes has a plug connecting the wiring to the upc board, it can come loose, or have corrosion.
