    Confused IS IT A REAL BAD SIN

    Hi everyone,,Can someone help me with this,,,,,,My vaccum pump is not the best so when I vaccum the evaporator side of the split system and did not have any nitrogen,,instead i used R22 to purge the system,,,I presurise with r22 vacumm for 10 minutes,,,I do this 3 times and the last time i vacumm for one hour,,Can you tell me am i doing a big sin to purge with r22 instead of Nitrogen,,,please tell me cause if it is a very bad practice i will not do again,,,,Thanks Jocelyn

    Use a micron gauge. Change your oil each time. Pressure test with nitrogen.

    sorry i did recover the r22,,but i just wondering if the r22 can damage the equipment ??????? but thanks all for your comments,,I realy appreciate,,Thanks Jocelyn from Canada

    Yes ok i did buy a micron guage,,many years back my boss only used the vacuum guage on his manifold guages,,but of course in those years micron electronic guages did not even exist,,This is 40 years back,,Thanks Jocelyn

    You could have standing water in your system and purging with any thing is not going to remove it. The purpace of a vacume is to remove any moisture. Only way to do that is to pull a deep vacume. I woulld say you need a new pump.

    Thanks Synergy I realy appreciate your advices,,,,I will look forward to it,,I am just a rooky and your help will surely make my life easier,,It is nice to see that there is still some good guys in this world who will help you,,,I have been an industrial electrician for 40 years and just repaired a few refrigerator and air cond. in my shop sideline for a few years,,but was never in big commercial work,,I am retired now and doing some residential and small commercial work,,I am a bit rusty but will get better as i go,,,Thanks a lot for the advice,,,Jocelyn

    Thanks xceltech you guys are very helpfull,,I am listing to all your comments,,Friday i bought an electronic vacumm guage,,now i will fell better with good readings,,,thanks a lot,,I might have to buy a new vacuum pump too soon

    R 22 cost a lot more than nitrogen. I wouldn't think of using it, except in an emergency.
    Get a nitrogen tank and regulator.

    In Canada the rules regarding purging with HCFC are very clear you can not. As what was also pointed out the cost of r-22 and if you are brazing you should be purging with nitrogen. You should have at least taken HRAI CFC certification.
