    goodman thermostat

I had a Goodman fully communicating heat pump installed with a Goodman stat. Do I need to be concerned that the stat will go bad at some point down the road and I will not be able to replace it with a communicating stat? Not sure if future stats will be backwards compatible on the technology. I was thinking about purchasing an extra.

    Thanks

Did you get the communicating stat? Goodman equipment can be configured to run with a conventional stat. The CTK01 is a little pricey to buy for a spare.

Yup, they can run with a convetional stat if needed. Goodman will be around for a while so I'd expect the thermostat to be available for the life of the system.... especially since it's relatively new. They'll be selling that stat or a compatible version of it for at least another 5-8 years.

If nothing else, I'd expect the communicating stats in their current form to simply trickle down to lower end units at some point.

Yea. Bought the communicating stat. Looks looks the stat is not covered under the extended warranty. It is a little expensive but would rather pay now than be in trouble ten years from now.

Even if the stat dies, you can go back to a standard thermostat.
"Better tell the sandman to stay away, because we're gonna be workin on this one all night."

"Dude, you need more than 2 wires to a condenser to run a 2 stage heatpump."

    "Just get it done son."

    Dad adjusted
