The symptoms are that my unit will ignite and run for about 5 minutes but won't blow out any heat, then it shuts off, then I smell gas for about 5 minutes, then the process repeats itself. Any suggestions?

sounds like heater cycling on safeties. better call for service. try turning fan to on position at thermostat, if does not work or you have no fan switch shut off till serviced.

    Welcome to HVAC TALK.

    Here's something to think about...

When was the last time you had your unit cleaned and inspected?

Now you have a problem with the unit. Fuel costs are skyrocketing.

So why not call in a professional to repair the unit? While they are there they can clean and inspect your unit to insure a safe living environment for you and your loved ones. Not to mention, having an efficient running system could save you more than the cost of the service.

What's your safety worth? I'm guessing more than the repair bill.

    Thanks for your understanding.

Best suggestion would be don't make the situation worse by trying to DIY. Call a qualified technician out to fix the problem for you.

You smell gas, so you log onto the internet to figure out why... Unreal.
Call someone before you blow to pieces.

Yah...don't light a match and call a pro....or the fire department if you continue to try and fix it yourself.

    Things for you to check.

the yellow pages for number of service company.
the telephone to call that #.
Your check book, or credit card is handy, to pay for service and repairs.
