Pef Raidiant Barrier option for fan compartment?
I’m looking for advice on re-insulating a pair of rather old 75 ton Trane roof top units that have lost most of their inside fiberglass - primarily in the fan compartments.
I was wondering if there are any down-sides to using one of these radiant barrier products?
Our main goal is to cut down on the solar gain from the metal roof and side panels, this stuff would be much cheaper than fiber.
Price is a factor too in that these will likely be replaced w/i three or four years, mean time we're picking up about +10 with the largely bare metal.
I am told I would be cleaning and gluing the sheets on with 3m #77.
Ok. But I can't find anything on that site that shows any relative effectiveness by some measure (or to other methods)?
It beat "paint". I wonder if they beat spray on foam roofing.
The claim is 90 + % radiant reflection (if that's the right term) for the films, 'bubble type adds a bit of R value (4) without an air gap which is what I'd be doing.
I would guess that putting a barrier on the outside (vs. allowing the case to absorb the radiant energy in the first place) would be better. I considered 'film on the outside but they don't rate it for that use, not sure it'd fly aesthetically anyway.

The last time we did this we used sheet rubertex and glued pinned it in some places.

Thanks, I'll check but I'd suspect that'd be as or more expensive than fiber(?)
