Hvac purchases, with a 609 license.

Hello forum members, quick ? for u experts.
Ive got a 609 license due to be a auto technician. Can i purchase home ac parts
for johnston parts store with a 609 license?

If you mean Johnstone, that's a contractor only store in my area.

A 609 license allows you to purchase refrigerants used in auto and other mobile AC for cooling the cab area. It does not apply to purchase of parts, per se.

If you wish to purchase refrigerants for non-mobile AC or refrigerated cargo, then you would need a 608 license.

That makes sense. I was actually wanting to purchase a dual run capacitor for my ac unit.

You can always try, but I suspect it will be a no go.... The supply houses in my area are pretty stringent on making sure you are a contractor before you purchase from them.

Go to any electric motor rebuilder the will have them they are not for hvac only

Big difference between EPA 608 and 609. 609 means a wholesaler (and distributors have to dance that dance on their own) can sell equipment to anyone. 608 comes to the actual contractors, who are responsible for recovery, evac and start up. (okay, evac is not part of it...but it still an industry best practice.)

It is not illegal for wholesaler to sell you equipment, I actually think we do not pay enough attention to language of EPA 609. I know I generally had to deal with wholesalers not distributors, but I have yet to be informed that the EPA has yet to take notice of that distinction either. (Maybe it is a test not tested?) But then I see all the Internet Distributors, promising things the manufactuer's website takes away with a credit card purchase.

B2B establishments do not fall under the category of either really, and I can demonstrate that readily enough. It isn't that I do not think you can handle vaccuum pump, micron guage or refrigrerant...just that you are not what EPA 609 is selling to either...and that is the true crux of the matter.

EPA 609 is to certify the auto and other mobile AC mechanics for the recovery, purchasing, and charging of covered refrigerants used in those systems.

Time is correct...just because the limits have not been tested at providing levels, doesn't make it legal at your own you care about.
