    Why would cold air sometimes come out of the floor registers when unit is not calling for heat?

    You likely have leaks in your duct system. Are the ducts outside of the conditioned space?

    when you say cold air do you mean the blower is blowing cold air or does it feel like a draft of cold air?

    Could it be that you have the fan setting on the thermostat set to the "on" position?
