1998 Heat Pump - Compressor
I have a 1998 Airco Aire heat pump and the repair company said the compressor is out. This unit uses R22. Do they still sale replacement compressors for R22 or will the entire outside unit need to be replaced?
The inside air handler was built in 1998 also so I doubt it could handle R410.
Thoughts on this situation?
Thanks,
Rod

Sure you can get a 22 compressor. Or outdoor unit. But I wouldn't do either. Get an efficient, matched system for years of economical, hopefully troublefree life.

Thanks Loonie.
Another piece of this puzzle is, I just moved into this house and it came with "Home Warranty" so I am trying to figure what I will do because I am sure they will try and go the cheapest route.
Any advice on what I should say to them if they try and take me down the wrong path?
Thanks,
Rod

They will only pay for a compressor replacement. You can take the cash buy out and get a whole new higher efficiency system if you want.

They certainly won't buy you a new system.
As stated, you may be better off taking a payout, which of coarse they will most likely beat you up on.
Home warranties usually don't work out well for the buyers.
If only there were some way to get that message out to home buyers."Hey Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort." And he says, "there won't be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness." So I got that goin' for me, which is nice. - Carl Spackler

you will not get a compressor for free you will be charged for a bunch of stuff that the home warranty does not cover. take the cash out and put it on a new system
