Here is what I have learned about warranties
Warranty length is NOT indicative of quality. For instance... menards can put "Lifetime Warranty" on their Tool Shop line of tools.
When you use the tool.... it breaks or malfunctions immediately...... Do you really want it replaced with another piece of junk just like it?????
P.S. I am not calling Trane cheap, I just used Tool Shop as an example.

sounds like the op had only the compressor replaced on the outside. All compressor replacements (small 10 ton and less) only come with a one year warranty, including Trane. The only way you get a longer warranty is replacing the entire outdoor unit with a "dry charged" R-22 unit (usually 5 year warranty) most of these various brands have a copeland scroll installed in them or replacing the entire system (outdoor unit + indoor coil) with a new R-410A system. This requires a lineset flush or a lineset replacement and the reflected installed price will be significantly higher than just the compressor or outside unit. Most all new systems, not just Trane come with a 10 year warranty.
