Considering what I am assuming to be the age of the unit (1969 or earlier) a recommended match for the air handler would not be available. If it is really that old you would need to replace the air handler for the sake of efficiency and required ARI matching by the contractor you will hire to do the work.

Let's see what others may say and possibly correct me on. I could be wrong!

New indoor and outdoor unit. Nothing made that will match up and work correctly.

Put a new condenser on a G&S air handler?

Like putting a new motor in a Vega!

If you have a Gaffers and Sattler, it's time for a new air handler!

    Seriously?
There's no match for that antique. Time to install new matched system.

plus you will lose 30% or more capacity with that setup. whole new system is the only choice. there is a white paper on this, forget where it is.
