Because price of job completed is not based on labor rate and part cost but is based on cost of doing buisness....to explain futher...you have to factor in all costs of operating a servicve enterprise...and then find the margin of profit you can live with...and be confident you will be in buisness 3,4,5...20 years from now
I know this isn't much of an answer...how about this...most owners I have worked for want to get 10% on every job....but even after the most well laid plans wind up getting 2%
As to your personal situation going with a gas furn...I would'nt settle for any estimate that didn't include a 90% efficient or better furnace
Ask if they will put in 90% for the quote of the 80%...
then laugh all the way to the bank

    Hmm

any quality hvac equipment is only available to authorized dealers and not the general public. you are not only not going to be able to price it but also unable to buy it yourself unless you are a contractor, unlike auto parts. There are gov. regulations pertaining to handling refrigerants and also safety concerns for the homeowner so you really need to contact a qualified contractor. If an average of all prices are fairly close for comparable equipment then you can be sure that it is an average price for your area. And yes Trane is exellent equipment.

Well Thanks for replys, I didnt understand how the whole HVAC price thing. I will get 2 more estimates. It is hard to have estimates done in this area people dont like to return phone calls. Is it best to get a 90% over the 80%? I thought it would be myself. Also anyone know of a HVAC contactor in the salem ma. area?

    Thanks
    Tom

Is the "T" word appropriate here?
Everyone has a purpose in life..........even if it's to be a bad example.

Seek first to understand, before seeking to be understood.

You own your own auto repair shop.

Are your prices the exact same as every where else in the country? I doubt it.

Hvac is the same, different areas, have different prices.

Strange how pep boys, and advance auto have different prices here for the same wheel bearings.

The same hvac supply house in Rochester NY, charges me more then here in lanc PA, for the same power venter.
