Yep that is a 80,000 BTU Carrier Infinity
Can anyone identify this model number: 58MVP-080-F114. I'm told it's a Carrier Infinity 96 but I want to be sure.
Thanks!

New infinity number will be 58MVB, 58MVP is the infinity also. (just an FYI)

Is there much difference between them? Wondering if I need to request the newer unit. Any way to tell how much older the MVP unit is?
Thanks!

Got a bid today to install this furnace and a Carrier cased coil, model no. K5-BXA-042-021 in my attic, to replace an existing Ameristar furnace & coil that wasn't done right (as previous threads have discussed) and just isn't the right furnace for the application (too loud). Got a price of $4500 to remove the existing set up and plug the new one in (ducts, drain pan, mechanical lines, etc. are all already in place and will remain).

Dude. THAT is a gas furnace...94.6 %.
Let's not talk about price , but those furnaces are not cheap..... VERY nice. IMHO
Life goes on long after the thrill of living is gone.
no i thought he said the original unit was a heat pump.
ok i have read your other post and got the whole picture and if you are swapping out your furnace for a quieter one and because of the coil problem and they are not going to swap out the condensing unit the only thing i can say about the $$$ is wow. where do you live. you said that the unit is right behind the wall where you office is and it is loud. have you tried sound proofing the wall between your office and the unit.
As millerman pointed out the MVB is replacing the MVP. Someone asked about any differences.
1. The MVB can be set up as a one pipe or two pipe where the MVP is a strictly a two pipe system.
2. The MVB comes with a new improved HSI

Isnt there an improved secondary as well?
but is one going to be quieter than the other one
Just outside Chicago. I could soundproof the wall but it would be hard (and costly) to adequately soundproof the 7 foot long opening in the wall for servicing the unit. I figure for the extra cost of soundproofing I can upgrade to a Carrier unit that solves the coil problem and the sound problem.Originally posted by coolcray3

It may not be proper etiquette to discuss here, but I asked about price before because I'm in a time crunch to get this re-install done and only got one bid. He wants to do the job on Friday, which would also be good for me. I don't mind paying a little extra under the circumstances but I don't want to pay A LOT extra.
I've got to give the Carrier installer a yea or nea tomorrow. Maybe I'll see if I can get someone out for a quickie in the morning.
i dont know how bad the sound is but you have ask your self how much it will be decreased just by swapping the unit.you might be able to do something different with the opening and look into the aspen coil to solve the coil problem for alot les than swaping out.maybe you should try getting a carpenter and see what he thinks about it.
i think if it was me i would try to have some sound proof panels made up and run it until it was done and not even worry about the coil until there was a problem with it and worry about when the time comes. you will probably get 4 or 5 years out of it or more before you have a problem with it.

Also, I'm putting $3500 of the previous installers fee toward the Carrier, so there's only about a $1000 difference - which all tolled is about what it would have cost me to put in the Carrier in the first place.Originally posted by coolcray3

ok i didnt know that the previous installer was footing the bill in that case go ahead and do it to it and yes there is big difference in the sound from one to the other but i was just trying to save you from spending and trust me you will notice the difference in sound but you are still going to hear that unit run with out doing something to block the sound no matter what unit you put in and especially if the return is in the same room.
Thanks for all the input. I appreciate it. Know of any good resources for soundproofing?
