Any idea how much the suction elbow weighs on a york m # yta2b2b2-cge
s# mrp49767 comp M# ydtj-76. I have changed gaskets on a trane suction elbow, had to use gantry and remove purge. Also has shaft seal leak, got new non spring replacement kit, how much if any play is tolerated on the comp shaft, has play back and forth also up and down.

How did you determine that you have up and down play on the compressor shaft? As for pulling the suction ell how bout a gantry with a trolley and chainfall attached. Suction ell is not that heavy. Good Luck

after removing the shaft seal, i noticed the play by just moving it by hand, would you say the elbow is 400 pounds

you should not have any up and down play in the shaft. you will have some thrust (in and out) but thats it. once you remove the shaft seal, you should be able to see the low speed bearing to visually inspect it. 400 lbs seems about right for the elbow. like chad_nc says, gantry with trolley and chainfall is the best.

Suction ell is around 100-150 lbs

In-out and sideways
t2- Back and forth, up and down,I have never heard of these technical terms before, except when I was taking a Correspondence Gynecologic Course on-line , maybe my good buddy's klove or graham could fill me in. The actual terms should be radial run-out (side to side) and thrust (in -out). If you have a compressor teardown book you will have these spec's. You will need a dial indicator to take these readings as all readings are in thousands of an inch. If you can feel the movement in your shaft in the radial planes your outer low speed bearing is out and as far as thrust goes, it can be deceiving as there is about and this is just a guess as I dont have the exact tolerances for this machine, but thrust would be around .010"- .016", when you take this reading make sure you move the shaft from the completely thrusted position or as you might say (in) to the reversed thrusted position (out). Radial should be no more then .002 TIR (total indicated run out) on the shaft free spinning, no tools forcing rotation as they may cause shaft deflection mis-readings. By all means please use a Tee frame and trolley to remove the suction elbow as this may be a smaller machine, but pig iron does not bounce very well when dropped. Good luck and be safe.-Geo
