I just bought a home with a detached garage. It was used for a woodworking shop. It has a airhandler in the attic, with the return air filter frame flush with the ceiling. It is set up for 2" filters.
I'm not using this as a woodshop, I'm welding and machining. I have a portable smoke/fume extractor, and a exhaust system in there, but the filters still get very dirty very quickly.
Is there a filter system that is made for dirty environments, a washable that is available, any other things I should look at? Thanks.......Canusaah

Pre-Filter
Use a low-efficiency media roll pre-filter.Originally posted by canusaah

I saw a setup someone did with filter media on a roll. The roll of filter media mounted on one side of the return, and the media came off the roll and slid through a rack over the return opening. When the media over the return opening got dirty, you could pull it through so clean filter media was over the return, then just cut off and threw away the dirty media.
If more government is the answer, then it's a really stupid question.
