Rough in on new home completed this week.

Furnace was supposed to be a Bryant 355MAV042060

What I saw this morning in the attic was a Carrier label on the furnace. I'll call dealer on Monday to ask about the Carrier label.

Is it common for Bryant/Carrier, Trane, AS, Ruud/Rheem, etc. to use interchangeable equipment?

I'm aware that they are the company. My question had more to do with the practice of substituting equipment.

From my reading, the specs on the Bryant and Carrier furnaces are pretty much the same, although the AC units have different SEER ratings.

i would make him install what he quoted. or get the model numbers off both furnaces to make sure its equal.

If your unit is a Carrier 58MVP or 58MVB you have the same thing. That's the top of the line Carrier Infinity Furnace.

I would be pleased if my builder substituted Carrier for Bryant. I used to be a Carrier dealer & switched when they went to that new body style with the 1 door on it so I'm not as familiar with their model #'s like I used to be. but isnt the MAV just a standard 80% furnace? It sounds like a 3 1/2 ton furnace with a 60 thousand btu furnace. When I was a dealer they didnt make a 60 thou on a 3 1/2 it was a 90 thou. But its been about 3 or 4 years ago & a lot can change.

The mfg didnt do that, your contractor did. in this case its no big deal. It might have been a matter of availability.

This reminds me of the first house I bought. I was living in Atlanta & wasnt back in this trade yet. I bought in a new subdivision & they built after I signed a contract. They listed Carrier as the equipment & they installed Payne. Now I really did get the short end of the stick on that deal. lol

Substituting is Fine as long as he informed you
AHEAD-of-Time that he would not adhere to the
LETTER of the CONTRACT.

Unless, of course,
contract actually states "OR Equal".
In which case, he would not have to inform you ahead of time and the alternate equipment is TRULY EQUivALent.

How could the A/C be EQUivALent (or higher)
with different SEER ratings?
Is the CARRIER A/C unit that was installed
a higher SEER than the Bryant stated in the contract?
