Talking How to wire a single phase compressor into a three phase machine

    my all time favorite -

first pic you are looking at two capacitors, a contactor, and the wad of duck tape that was used to hold it together in a ball and set inside the unit.
this is a single phase comp, and a three phase machine.
second pic empty copper straps and sealed equalizer tube where there once was a TXV.
third pic is some fancy pipe work
fourth pic is the disconnect - completely bypassed - what you can't see is the sealtight that has 10awg romex in it that Taps into the power disconnect of the rooftop beside it. (O>O)

what is even more amazing is that this thing actually ran just long enough to eject the terminal(pic5) and catch fire

Step 1, take unit to edge of roof.
    Step 2,..........
Step 3, replace with nice new unit, proper voltage, and phase.
    Step 4, collect money!

I have converted more than one unit in my life.............but they looked like new after I did it. Thats because they were new.

Project electrical changed and they forgot to tell me of the changes until after the units were installed. What do you mean there is no 480 !

Sheepishly I have to admit I did not check the phase and voltage of a 5 ton heat pump until after the crane pulled away. The crane company picked the unit up at Lennox and that is where the mistake was made.

One of these days one of you guys is going to find that unit and post pics here. I ran 60 feet of flexible conduit across the roof to the closest source of single phase 240 voltage.

When the unit is replaced next time I will make amens.
