Which brand of Furnace to get??

All,

I'm about to get a new furnace 96% AFUE. Which brand is recommended by you all?

What brand do you currently have, and what type of service has it given you? If that brand has performed for you, then it would be an excellent place to start. As you will hear repeated here over and over, brand is actually secondary to a quality installation by a professional quality contractor.

Anticipating your next question, check with friends, family, neighbors, and co workers to get recommendations from companies that have earned their business. Then give that company an opportunity to earn yours.

Get references, check them out, and be sure than a manual J load calculation is performed by the contractor along with a manual D if duct design is an issue.

We install Trane and Carrier, I give the nod to Carrier because of Infinity control,and if on propane we have found less rust.

Do Trane and Carrier have 96% efficient furnaces? The only one I am aware of is the Amana furnace.

find a contractor you feel comfortable with and use the product he recomends. brand is not as important as the guy installing it.
side note and nothing to do with this
wish lenox would bring back the pules furnace 97 and a half percent.

I had a 96% Infinity installed last fall and it works great. The guys who did the installation did a fantastic job and the owner of the company spent and evening with me going over the system and Infinity control. That is probably more important than the brand of furnace.

Hey Robo, I forgot to add though....that is the only one that is rated that high. The rest of the carriers, from the 60 on up drop to 94.1

Would you like aluminized steel (20 yr.) OR stainless steel (lifetime)?

If you're an old crotchedy bastard you might not need a furnace that lives longer than you do. If you are a young guy just starting out the stainless steel would be the way to go.

I rather go with the stainless steel heat exchanger. Does Carrier, Rheem, American Standard or Bryant do stainless steel?
