The way I read that story is they went all over the state to find the whiny people who waited to the last minute to take care of business. No sympathy here.

It does not seem like they had to search very far. Here's a couple of paragraphs detailing the losses

The state is also losing millions in revenue every day of the shutdown. The lottery normally pulls in about $1.25 million daily, while state compliance officers chase down about $1.68 million in tax revenues per day. The closing of the express toll lanes and Giants Ridge public golf course and convention center means more than $120,000 a week will slip away.

    10 least affordable colleges

Plus, Minnesota expects to shell out $8.5 million a week in unemployment insurance for the laid-off state workers, according to the Department of Employment and Economic Development. And it will pay $4.7 million to cover their health insurance weekly.

My calculator shows ,as of day 6, 7.5 million lost to lottery sales, 10.8 million in tax revenues, 120 grand in tolls lost and 13.2 million a week in revenues paid out to state employees for unemployment and health insurance for a grand total of 31.5 million a week its costing the tax payers in lost and unneeded expenses.

It's a good idea, not to raise taxes, but a really stupid way of realizing your dreams

It's not that a State has to depend on a game of chance, it's that the State is losing revenue because of some pledge the legilators signed

at some point, SOMEONE has to draw a line and say enough is enough.

If shutting down the government is the only way to get there attention then thats what has to happen.

everyone keeps complaining that the government is shut down. Everyone is pointing fingers at everyone else.

stop your b!tching and come up with a solution that is workable, if you can't STFU

How about this, if the various legislators cannot come to an agreement in the prescribed time, then they should resign, as they are not doing what they got elected to do.

Sure but let the communists (Democrats) go first. Thank you, thank you very much

except you still have the problem!

You must be a politician, You can find a problem, your excellent at observing the problem from a distance, but you have no solution to the problem and when someone actually does 'something' about the problem you scream "that won't work" without trying a solution.

When someone in Minnesota with a backbone comes along and says "we are going to fix this now" half the elected officials think the the solution is to run away. If a elected official RUNS from his/her responsibilities, they should be immediately terminated with loose of all benefits.
