    cycling on and off?

I noticed my lights dimming every 10 minutes or so - sort of like your power is about to go out. Then I noticed that the house was 11 degrees warmer. What could be wrong?

When my air conditioner tried to come on, the lights in the house dimmed. AC is not cooling.

AC is broken..turn it OFF at the T-sat before more damage is done and call a pro.

A proper diagnosis can only be done by someone on site.
Also the site rules dictate that we cannot give instructions on how to fix or what could be wrong with your system. We can inform you of how your system should perform and other information to better your understand HVAC

Capacitor was bad. After a couple calls, I got someone out to fix it. That was about six hours ago, and it's not yet at the desired temperature. Seems like it should be by now. Don't know if bill was reasonable or not. Just glad it wasn't worse.

    what is temp indoors?
what do you have t-stat set for?
has it started feeling cooler indoors?

    90 degrees outside
temp is 73, set on 69
Definitely cooler in here, was 80 last night. Just changed one of my filters that was dirty. It's 80 upstairs (set on 80) and it feels cooler up there - like the air coming out of the vents is cooler. Oh well. I'll wait and see.

you not only have to cool the air in your home but also all the furnishings and stuff that has gotten warm. It may take till morning to feel the full effect.
How hot was it inside when it was finally fixed?
I would wait till morning till making the final judgement if its not cooling enough. You are trying to catch up to a sun load also.

    Smile

It was about 80. It's 72 now, so it's still coming down. I'm just judging from the upstairs. If you turn the t-stat down up there, it reaches desired temp. in minutes. However, it's not nearly as large a space as downstairs. We've had to have the larger unit serviced several times due to problems and have never had anything wrong with the smaller unit. They are only five years old. Tonight should be much more comfortable than last so I'm happy.
