My wife and I recently purchased our first home and during the inspection the inspector commented, "The furnace is quite old and you may want to consider replacing it. But for now... it works fine." That was two years ago.
The Furnace:
Crano 140,000 BTU
Made by: Crane & Ordway Co.
Serial Number 1060
I Live in Minnesota and we are subject to harsh winters. Any thoughts on whether or not I should replace this. If so, any furnace and/or contractor recommendation for the MSP area would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Older furnaces typically are low efficiency (60%) furnaces.
If it were mine, I would be looking to upgrade to a 90%.
There are some very good options on the market today.
You might want to start a new thread with "Looking for a Minnesota heating contractor" for a title.
You will get more interest.
Also, there is a tab at the top of the page labeled "find a contractor".
Click and read.
Good luck.

I've never even heard of a Crano before. I agree I'd replace it with a 90+ furnace. If you do get some estimates, I'd find a Rheem dealer & get a price on that 90+ modulating furnace. I just bought one of those to put in my house. I'll get it put in in the next 3 or 4 weeks when my guys can get freed up.
Life is like a jar of jalapenos. What you do today might burn your ass tomorrow.

I'm from the cities and have seen old furnaces called Crane but not Crano. Are you sure about the name Crano? Crane stopped making furnaces in 1968 so if it is a Crane its old and inefficient. With a furnace that old your chimney is probably not lined so check it out.
Warning: Just because I am over the head injury doesn't mean I'm normal!

Grasshopper,
I am sure. The tag on the furnace reads:
CRANO
Made by
Crane and Ordway Co.
It is for sale if you want to purchase this as an antique.
Maybe it is 50+ years old. But I haven't needed to call on a contractor for repairs.
However, it is probably time for an upgrade.
