Well Water for Cooling in central North Carolina.
I have a well that runs from May continuously till late September. Water temp is 55 degrees. I am either irrigating the yard, 6 acres, or putting water in pond. I would like to run the water through a coil and simply have an intake on my first floor, blow the air through the coil in my basement that has the well water pumping through it and then return the air back into the house. The amount of water being pumped is around 15 gallons a minute, so I believe I have plenty of water, I just can't find a unit that I could simply put in place and duct and wire. I already have a 16 sere AC that works great, so I just want to use this to help the AC unit and cut down on the electric bill. Since the only additional cost that I can see is the cost of the fan blowing the air and the cost of pulling the humidity out of the air by the AC and/or dehumidifier. Does this sound worth doing? Would it lower my AC costs? Do they make units for this? If so, where?Thanks in advance.

All you need is a air handler and a coil. Check out your supplier and find out who supplies water coils. (I would gut an old electric furnace and use fan with the coil)
If you find that it meets your houses cooling needs, I would pull the motor and install an ECM motor to reduce the electrical costs.
How much does it cost to run the water pump? How many amps it draws compared to the amp draw of a compressor.. good luck. great idea if you water was just a few degrees colder it would be perfect.

Thanks for the info. I'm not really sure on the amp draw of the water pump. Since I am running it continuously anyway, I really didn't consider that as part of the cost. I had looked to Gr___g_r for a unit and found plenty of coils and motors, but not the entire unit already packaged up. So, using an old gutted unit with a new ECM motor sounds great. I'll post any success and what the numbers end up being.
There are literally thousands of air handlers designed for water cooling as it's done all the time using chillers. One simply has to purchase a unit with the proper load capacity and you're off an running. Flow rate through the coil is critical so some engineering is necessary. Load analysis first, naturally.
